Due to their low molecular weight and refractive index values, Low Viscosity Pure Silicone Fluids are
widely used in Optics research, LED technologies & Sensor technologies.
Low Viscosity Silicone Fluids are widely used as laboratory bath fluids / heat transfer fluids due to their low
viscosity, low pour points, low viscosity change at temperature and high dielectric strength,…See also Low Temperature Silicone
Bath Fluids and Low Temperature Silicone Heat Transfer Fluids.
Unlike higher viscosities PDMS Silicone Oils, Super Low Viscosity Silicone Fluids are characterized by
their volatility (varying rates of evaporation). Combined with their low surface tensions (high
spreadability), and non‐greasy feel, they are used as base fluids, carrying agents and wetting agents in
a wide range of personal care products. See also Cosmetic Grade Silicones.
Properties:
- Low viscosity PDMS Silicone Oils…viscosities close to water
- Low pour points (as low as -100°C)
- Low Temperature Stability
- Low surface tension fluids (high spreadability)
- Low viscosity change at temperature (low VTC)
- High Compressibility
- RI Values between 1.3750 to 1.3900
- High Dielectric Strength
- Low Molecular Weight
- Newtonian behavior under shear
- Varying rates of evaporation…excellent for bases fluids in cosmetic formulations
