Use: Low Viscosity Down-Hole Silicone Fluids possess the thermal/pressure/viscosity and density properties that are critical in the ever harsher environments in the Down-Hole oil and gas exploration industries. They are linear Polydimethylsiloxane fluids (CAS# 63148-62-9) that range in viscosity from 5cSt to 20cSt (centistokes).
Low Viscosity Down-Hole Silicone Fluids are characterized by their low pour points, high damping action, newtonian behavior under shear, low viscosity change at temperature (VTC), excellent lubricity, high dielectric strength, wide service temperature range and inertness to virtually all components such as transducers, instruments, gauges and cables.
Low Viscosity Down-Hole Silicone Fluids are used to dampen vibration and serve as a heat transfer / heat stable fluid in a wide range of Down-Hole pressure gauges, geo-steering instrumentation, transducers, cables, temperature and process recorders, control valves, calibration equipment, flow meters, thermostats.
Low Viscosity Down-Hole Silicone Fluids are particularly effective for use in instruments and gauges that will operate at extremely low temperatures (-80°C). Silicone fluids are hydrophobic and prevent humidity from entering the gauge/instrument housing. This is very important. At low temperatures, water condensation can freeze and cause damage to the sensitive parts within the gauge/instrument housing. Ultimately, Silicone Down-Hole Fluids will extend the service life of the equipment that it fills and provide more accurate readings even in the harshest of conditions.
Unlike conventional petroleum based fluids like mineral oil, Down-Hole Silicone Fluids exhibits extremely high compressibility and will not coagulate under pressure. The lower the viscosity, the higher the compressibility will be. Silicone Down-Hole Fluids will not solidify even at high pressures of 4,000 MPa
Low Viscosity Down-Hole Silicone Fluids are inert to virtually all plastic, metal and rubber parts such as o-rings, gaskets, valves and seals.
If a lower viscosity is needed, See Low Viscosity Silicone Damping Fluids
