High Viscosity Down-Hole Silicone Fluids possess the thermal/pressure/viscosity and density properties that are critical in the ever harsher environments in the Down-Hole oil and gas exploration industries. These Fluids are linear Polydimethylsiloxane fluids (CAS# 63148-62-9) that range in viscosity from 5,000cSt to 100,000cSt (centistokes) @ 25C.
High Viscosity Down-Hole Silicone Fluids are characterized by their low pour points, high damping action, newtonian behavior under shear, low viscosity change at temperature (VTC), excellent lubricity, high dielectric strength, wide service temperature range and inertness to virtually all components such as transducers, instruments, gauges and cables.
High Viscosity Down-Hole Silicone Fluids are effective for use in instruments and gauges that will operate in more extreme environments where higher temperatures and higher pressures are present. They have a service temperature range of -40°C to 230°C (close to air) and can withstand High Pressures
In comparison to the medium viscosities Down Hole Silicone Fluids, the properties of the High Viscosity Fluids are very similar. However, due to their higher viscosity, they will provide higher damping action and may be better viscosities for applications that need to dampen high rates of vibration.
Unlike conventional petroleum based fluids like mineral oil, Down-Hole Silicone Fluids exhibits extremely high compressibility and will not coagulate under pressure. The lower the viscosity, the higher the compressibility will be. Silicone Down-Hole Fluids will not solidify even at high pressures of 4,000 MPa
By nature, Silicone fluids are hydrophobic and prevent humidity from entering the gauge/instrument housing. This is very important. At low temperatures, water condensation can freeze and cause damage to the sensitive parts within the gauge/instrument housing. Ultimately, Silicone Damping Fluids will extend the service life of the equipment that it fills and provide more accurate readings even in the harshest of conditions.
